Reaching for the Moon
Reaching for the Moon
Hard-work and determination can take a small town girl to a big time playing field, right? Many young riders aspire to reach the top levels of competition, some make it a career choice, and some actually make their dreams come true. CTP Equestrian is the result of years of motivation to do just that. Follow along with Carla on her lifelong journey to fulfill the dreams of that small town girl; all grown up and on her way.

I've never been one to think small. When describing my goals if I'm being honest- I'm looking for it all. Top facility to train top horses and confident riders at any level. I'd love to get into producing top quality sport ponies, as who doesn't love an adorable pony?! I'm just the right size to work with them and I love a pint sized superstar.
I aim to stay competitive over a long career in eventing and dressage while being the best horseperson I can be; staying true to my solid foundation and influence others to focus on the same.
The top? On one hand, I'm kind of already there. I have everything I need to continue doing what I love for the rest of my life. On the other hand, I want to be an FEI competitor. I'd love to be a 5* rider one day and see my name on the roster at LRK3DE. There is much to be done to reach that competitive stage, however everything from the daily rides to a smiling student or a confident training horse gives me so much satisfaction that I can say I'm already embracing the reality my life has become.

Carla's Journey Back Home
"I grew up in this area and I loved every minute of it. The woman who taught me my first riding lesson, Amy Romaniec, still lives right down the street from my parents. She would let me take my favorite pony home all the time, and my parents let me string some twine as temporary fence in the back yard. That saint of a pony would just hang out there and eat grass. I would gaze at him for hours in my back yard and dream of the day I would have my own farm, and many more ponies on it.
When I finished college at Penn State, I knew I needed to go somewhere I could immerse myself into sporthorse riding on a professional level, eventing in particular. I needed to learn and grow as a rider and trainer. Most of all, I needed to understand what it takes to be a professional in this industry. I moved to Maryland with my now husband, JP. In the heart of USEA Area II, resources are abundant. With access to top facilities and trainers, I took advantage of every opportunity available to improve myself. I've ridden with a long list of top trainers in eventing and dressage. I spent most of my time working under Mogie Bearden- Muller of Fox Hill Eventing as everything from student, working student, to barn manager. I still consider her my mentor and will always be a student of hers. I also spent a year under Valerie Vizcarrondo of Blue Clover Eventing, giving me much foundation for my own program's model.
Coming back home was always part of the plan. I believe there are plenty of skilled riders here in Centre County who are hungry for more eventing. There are top competitions just a few hours away, but it can feel like another universe if you don't have the resources to get there. My goal is to bridge that gap. I want to expose and educate the riders in central PA to eventing in a professional atmosphere. I want to develop horses who are well trained in all three phases. I want to work with riders who are serious about their goals here in Centre County, with the opportunity to test themselves at the many great horse trials Area II has to offer. In addition, I hope to provide a higher level of training to those riders interested in dressage and over fences regardless of discipline. I believe it's all built on a solid, classic foundation which you specialize further based on your interests. So I'm not just looking to work with eventers!"
